Cerrado Monitoring
Cerrado Monitoring Brazil has made great progress in managing the monitoring of deforestation in the Cerrado biome.
In 2017, Abiove initiated a roundtable discussion involving not only non-governmental organizations, but also the buyers of our products to seek solutions to reduce and, as soon as possible, eliminate deforestation in the Cerrado directly associated with soybean, reconciling production with environmental, economic and social interests.
The Cerrado covers an area of 198.45 million hectares, of which 23.15 million was planted with soybean in the 2022/23 crop year, representing 11.7% of the biome’s area and 50.1% of the national soybean area.
A geospatial analysis report of the Cerrado, developed by Agrosatélite (a Serasa Experian company) in partnership with Abiove, shows that the majority expansion (95.1%) of soybean in the Cerrado occurred on pasture areas, fallow land or through rotation with annual crops, with only 4.9% through conversion of native vegetation.
