For the first time in its history, the Board of Directors of ABIOVE, the Brazilian Association of Vegetable Oil Industries, will not be headed by one of its members. Blairo Maggi was invited to assume the presidency of the Board because of his undeniable knowledge of and the relevant services he has rendered to Brazilian agriculture and to the vegetable oil industries. As President of the Board of Directors, Maggi will join forces with André Nassar, who has been ABIOVE’s Executive President since 2018.
Maggi, a former Minister of Agriculture, former Governor of Mato Grosso State and a former senator from the same state, replaces Martus Tavares as ABIOVE’s Chairman of the Board of Directors, continuing his work of representing this sector before federal and state governments and seeking to strengthen the sustainability of the production chain, as well as promoting knowledge abroad about Brazilian soy and its processed products.
ABIOVE thanks Martus Tavares for the three years of his leadership of the Board of Directors, during which time he contributed to the Association’s gaining greater national projection, while facing some of the industry’s most challenging moments, such as the truck drivers’ strike and subsequent fixed freight costs, the pressures for zero deforestation, the promotion of biodiesel and the repositioning of ABIOVE as the spokesperson for the sector’s companies.
