Commitment undertaken in 2014 by Abiove and the Association of Cereal Exporters (Anec) to the Federal Prosecution Office in Pará, aiming to enable sustainable production, ensure market access and legal certainty in the grain production chain, strengthen the Rural-Environmental Register (CAR) as a tool for environmental planning, meet the sustainability criteria of demanding markets and maintain the good reputation of the Brazilian agribusiness sector.
This protocol establishes that its signatories shall trade exclusively with producers/rural properties that meet a series of social and environmental criteria for the cultivation of grains.
Approximately 3.2 million tons of soybean, about 96% of the state’s production, meet the strict requirements established in the Green Grains Protocol of Pará. The gross value of the Brazilian agricultural and livestock production (VBP) is of approximately R$1.2 trillion, with over 80% of revenue concentrated in the Midwest, South and Southeast regions, according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture.
Pará ranks 10th among the Brazilian states and is the main agricultural producer in the country’s North region, with a Gross agricultural and livestock Production Value (VBP) of R$28 billion. Cattle raising accounts for 37% of the state’s business volume, followed by soybean cultivation and cassava production.
