The federal government implemented the National Policy for Solid Waste (PNRS) in July 2010, a law that requires the implementation of reverse logistics through the return of packaging and industrial materials after consumption.
This Policy introduces shared responsibility among the government, industries, commercial establishments and end consumers, which includes non-generation, reduction, reuse and treatment of solid waste, environmentally-responsible final disposal of waste, reduction in the use of natural resources, intensification of environmental education actions, increase in recycling, promotion of social inclusion and creation of jobs and income for recyclable material collectors.
To comply with the PNRS and demonstrate the commitment of the vegetable oils sector to the reverse logistics of post-consumer edible oil packaging, in 2018 Abiove created EmCicla, a program that supports projects that promote environmental education to encourage proper waste disposal, advisory services to municipalities on the implementation of smart recycling and sustainable, inclusive waste management in cooperatives and associations of recyclable waste collectors and compliance with state laws, in accordance with shared responsibility.
